After exposure to precipitation or high humidity, followed by freezing temperature at cruise altitude, the Gulfstream G150 flap and slap actuators can freeze preventing deployment. A no-flap/no-slat landing configuration can lead to a steeper descent path and high-speed landings; possibly requiring a diversion away from the planned destination airport.
Operational issues mitigated by the installation of this STC include: costly diversions to alternate destination with a runway of suitable length, passenger-experienced delays, and increased direct and indirect operational costs.
Peregrine has completed a supplemental type certificate (STC), ST01075DE, covering the installation of flap and slat actuator heaters to ensure improved high-lift system operation.
The STC covers the installation of heaters to prevent inadvertent freezing of the aircraft’s actuator components that control wing flaps and slats positions. The heaters ensure the reliable operation and deployment of the leading-edge slats and flaps in all operational environments.
